a comedy show with a mission
We provide comedians a platform to explore their personal journey of self-love and body positivity on stage as a shared experience for themselves and our audience. We choose to uplift the voices of those who are underrepresented in comedy clubs and provide a space for audience members to hear stand up comedy that isn't sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or racist--you know, the way it should be.
What people are saying
(to our faces)
"From start to finish the show had me in tears from laughing so hard. I've been to two shows so far, and both lineups had an A+ set of comedians. I love that the show sends an overall positive message - something we need to see more of in this day and age."
- Samantha Simone; Audience member
"I honestly can’t remember the last time I had that much fun on a stage. Go support live comedy, queer producers, and anyone that will give me a venue to take my top off!"
- Matt Brown; Comedian
"Nothing goes together quite like comedy and nudity... The lineups prioritize people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and women or female-identified performers - groups who are most often scrutinized for their looks"
- Chicago Reader
"From period sex to hairy nipples, childhood bullying to scars and abrasions... There’s something about humor that’s truly healing"
- Rebellious Magazine for Women
what we're all about
Established February 2016, Strip Joker is Chicago's only body-positive stand up comedy showcase providing an unique space for diverse voices, sexualities, genders, comedic styles, and bodies in various states of undress. This monthly show consistently features a great line up of some of the best local talent, and amazing out of towners for a truly unique show that is beautiful, vulnerable, and hilarious.
Now, in our new home of Mary's Attic, we have added a body positive after-party with music, a Strip Joker photo-booth, and a featured Chicago makers selling their goods. We are proud to provide a brave space for artists to explore and share their struggles of body positivity and self-love featuring a new roster of amazing talent each show! With this mission, we have done pop-up shows in Detroit, Milwaukee, Memphis, Pittsburg, Madison, South Bend, Louisville, and Columbus. We have also worked with the world renowned Steppenwolf Theatre for PRIDE and Knix Underwear for collaborative pop-ups.
